VEGAN OMEGA-3 FROM ALGAE OIL

Conventional omega-3 supplements are not vegan - as they are usually sourced from fish oil. Luckily, algae oil provides an excellent source of those essential omega-3 fatty acids suitable for people following a vegetarian (witout fish) or vegan diet. For our vegan omega-3 capsules, we use natural oil from Schizochytrium sp. algae. It contains both docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), the two physiologically most relevant forms of omega 3s. One capsule contains 500 mg of this high-quality algae oil, providing 150 mg DHA and 75 mg EPA.

Fish oil soft gel capsules are typically made with gelatine derived from animal waste and tend to leak easily. For our product we use vegan capsules that are free from gelatine, chemical fillers nor release agents. These innovative capsules are incredibly stable and leakproof and thus ensure a safe and clean product without the “fishy” smell.

THE IMPORTANCE OF OMEGA-3

Omega-3 fatty acids are key structural components of the brain and the retina of the eyes. They also function as precursors for important anti-inflammatory signalling molecules in the body.

GOOD TO KNOW

• There are three main types of omega-3 fatty acids: alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).
• ALA is the most commonly found omega-3 fatty acid found in food. It can be converted into EPA and DHA in the body. This conversion process is inefficient, though, so only a small percentage of ALA is converted into the two active forms.
